AND WEATHER. THIS IS COVERAGE. YOU CAN COUNT ON. WGAL NEWS EIGHT TODAY STARTS NOW. AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TEMPERATURES GOING DOWN FROM YESTERDAY’S HIGHS IN THE 90S WHEN WE COULD HIT THE 70S AGAIN. COMING UP ALSO TAKE A LOOK. ANIMALS SCRAMBLING FOR HIGHER GROUND AFTER A PIPE BURST AT A YORK COUNTY SHELTER. LOOK AT THAT CAT GO. WE’RE GOING TO TELL YOU WHERE THOSE ANIMALS ARE STAYING NOW. A DAUPHIN COUNTY HOTEL MUST START PAYING BACK NEARLY A HALF MILLION DOLLARS IN MISSING TAX PAYMENTS. HOW THE COUNTY IS MAKING SURE IT GETS THAT MONEY. GOOD MORNING EVERYONE. IT’S 430 ON THIS THURSDAY. I’M MATT BARCARO. I’M CAITLIN SMITH. BOY, WAS IT HOT. YES, IT CERTAINLY WAS. AND IT’S STILL HOT. THIS MORNING. YEAH. LET’S CHECK IN WITH CHIEF METEOROLOGIST CHRISTINE FERREIRA TO SEE HOW OUR FORECAST IS SHAPING UP TODAY. IF IT IS GOING TO BE AS HOT AS IT WAS YESTERDAY. NOT AS HOT. THAT’S THE GOOD NEWS. BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE HUMID, SO WE CAN’T KICK THAT JUST YET. BUT WE WILL BE SEEING A DROP IN THE HUMIDITY A LITTLE BIT AS WE HEAD INTO LATER TODAY AND TOMORROW. RIGHT NOW ON OUR STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK, WE’VE HAD A COUPLE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS, THUNDERSTORMS OVERNIGHT, ONE RIGHT NOW MOVING INTO FRANKLIN COUNTY AND WEAKENING SO YOU CAN SEE ESPECIALLY SOUTHERN FRANKLIN COUNTY, MERCERSBURG, GREENCASTLE, WAYNESBORO. PICKING UP A LITTLE LIGHT RAIN THIS MORNING. TEMPERATURE CHECK. PLENTY OF 70S ON OUR MAP. IT IS STILL SULTRY OUT THERE WITH THOSE DEW POINTS IN THE UPPER 60S, NEAR 70. AND HERE’S A LOOK AT THE 12 HOUR FORECAST. TEMPERATURES WON’T CLIMB AS FAST OR AS HIGH AS THEY WERE YESTERDAY. WE’RE NOT LOOKING AT 90S TODAY. THERE COULD BE A FEW EVENING THUNDERSTORMS AROUND, SO WE’LL TALK ABOUT THAT. COMING UP WITH THE PREDICTOR. BACK TO YOU. THANKS, CHRISTINE. STUDENTS IN THE CENTRAL DAUPHIN SCHOOL DISTRICT ARE HEADING BACK TO CLASS THIS MORNING WITH A NORMAL SCHEDULE. THE DISTRICT DID SEND STUDENTS HOME EARLY THE PAST TWO DAYS AT SIX ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS BECAUSE OF JUST HOW HOT IT WAS OUTSIDE, AND NOT EVERY CLASSROOM THERE HAS AIR CONDITIONING. WE TALKED WITH A PARENT OF A FIFTH GRADER AT MOUNTAIN VIEW ELEMENTARY WHO SAYS MANAGING THESE SCHEDULE CHANGES HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE. SCRAMBLING, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO’S GOING TO PICK HER UP, THEN HOW AM I GOING TO DO IT? TWO DAYS IN A ROW? YOU KNOW, I HAVE TO WORK. SO I HAD TO HAVE HER HER DAD PICK HER UP, OR I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE MY MOM BECAUSE I HAVE TO WORK. SO I’M SURE SHE’S GLAD EVERYTHING’S BACK TO NORMAL TODAY. CLASSES IN THAT DISTRICT DID JUST START ON MONDAY, AND TO YORK COUNTY NOW, WHERE AN ANIMAL RESCUE ORGANIZATION HAS TO CLEAN UP TODAY BECAUSE OF THAT BROKEN PIPE THAT FLOODED THE BUILDING. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT ANIMAL RESCUE, INC. AND A RESTORATION CREW DID MOP UP. YOU CAN SEE THE WATER THERE, 3 TO 6IN OF THAT WATER YESTERDAY. THAT RESCUE IS NEAR NEW FREEDOM. THE PIPE THAT BURST WAS IN A CRAWL SPACE BETWEEN TWO FLOORS, ABOUT 40 DOGS AND CATS ARE NOW IN FOSTER HOMES AND KENNELS. ONE DOG THAT WAS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR US HERE AND HE WAS WET ALL OVER. I THINK JUST GOING IN CIRCLES IN THE WATER, THE POOR THING. GLAD THAT THEY HAVE A PLACE TO STAY IN THE MEANTIME. BUT THE SHELTER DOES SAY IT’S GOING TO TAKE ABOUT EIGHT WEEKS FOR IT TO GET BACK TO NORMAL OPERATIONS THIS MORNING IN LANCASTER COUNTY. WE ARE STILL WORKING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT A BURGLARY THAT ENDED WITH AN OFFICER SHOOTING AT A SUSPECT. THE LANCASTER COUNTY DA’S OFFICE HAS NOW STARTED AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE SHOOTING. IT HAPPENED AFTER OFFICERS SAY THEY SAW A SUSPECT WITH A WEAPON ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE THE BURGLARY SCENE TUESDAY NIGHT. THIS HAPPENED IN THE PENN TOWN SHOPPING CENTER IN PENN TOWNSHIP ALONG ROUTE 72 NEAR MANHEIM. POLICE SAY THE SUSPECT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IS EXPECTED TO SURVIVE. ALTHOUGH POLICE HAVE NOT YET SAID IF THAT PERSON WAS SHOT. THE DAUPHIN COUNTY TREASURER SAYS A HOTEL OWES MORE THAN A HALF MILLION DOLLARS IN BACK TAXES. NICK DIFRANCESCO SAYS THE RED LION HARRISBURG HERSHEY HOTEL INITIALLY PAID CLOSE TO $120,000 IN BACK TAXES EARLIER THIS YEAR, BUT HE SAYS A RECENT AUDIT REVEALS THE HOTEL OWES MORE THAN $500,000 MORE. NOW, COUNTY ATTORNEYS ARE SEEKING RIGHTS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE PROPERTY TO ENSURE THE MONEY IS PAID. BECAUSE THIS PROPERTY ALREADY HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BE SOLD AND BECAUSE THE NUMBER WAS SO HIGH. BASICALLY I CONTACTED THE SOLICITOR’S OFFICE AND SAID, HEY, I’D REALLY LIKE TO PROTECT THOSE DOLLARS. WE REACHED OUT TO THE HOTEL STAFF AND HOTEL CHAIN SONESTA, WHICH OWNS RED LION HOTELS. NEITHER HAVE GOTTEN BACK TO US. ADAMS COUNTY LEADERS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING OUTDATED BRIDGE CAMERAS. THE MOVE COMES AS GETTYSBURG POLICE INVESTIGATE TWO SEPARATE CASES OF VANDALISM FROM EARLIER THIS MONTH. THOSE HIGH-TECH CAMERAS ARE EXPECTED TO BE PLACED AT THE HISTORIC SACHS COVERED BRIDGE, AND ALSO THE JOHN EISENHOWER BRIDGE. THE IMAGES ARE QUITE VIVID, AND THEY EVEN HAVE FACIAL RECOGNITION CAPABILITY, SO THEY’RE PRETTY SOPHISTICATED. THE BRIDGE ALSO GOT A COAT OF FIRE RETARDANT PAINT. THAT WAS ALL THANKS TO A PRESERVATION GROUP. WELL, THE FBI HAS RELEASED NEW DETAILS ABOUT THE INTERNET SEARCHES DONE BY THE MAN. IT SAYS SHOT FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP AND THREE OTHERS AT HIS RALLY, KILLING ONE OF THEM. THE FBI SAYS THOMAS CROOKS SPECIFICALLY SEARCHED FOR HOW FAR LEE HARVEY OSWALD WAS FROM JOHN F KENNEDY. INVESTIGATORS ALSO RELEASED PHOTOS OF HIS BACKPACK AND EXPLOSIVES IN HIS CAR. THEY PUSHED BACK ON CONSPIRACY THEORIES ABOUT THE ATTACK, SAYING THERE WAS NO SECOND SHOOTER OR ASSOCIATES OF CROOKS WITH ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE OF THE ATTACK. THEY ALSO SAID THEY HAVE NOT SEEN ANY EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST CROOKS WAS DIRECTED BY A FOREIGN ENTITY. THE SUBJECT CONDUCTED MORE THAN 60 SEARCHES RELATED TO PRESIDENT BIDEN AND FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP. THE FBI SAYS CROOKS STARTED RESEARCHING AS EARLY AS SEPTEMBER OF 2019. THEY ALSO SAY HE RESEARCHED BOTH DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN EVENTS BEFORE THE ATTACK. CROOKS WAS SHOT AND KILLED AFTER POLICE SAY HE FIRED THOSE SHOTS. IT’S 435 IN THE SUPREME COURT. REJECTED THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION’S PLEA TO REVIVE THE LATEST MULTIBILLION DOLLAR PLAN TO TRY TO TACKLE FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN DEBT. THE NEW SAVE PLAN IS DESIGNED TO LOWER PAYMENTS FOR MILLIONS OF BORROWERS, BUT IT IS FACING SEVERAL LAWSUITS. YESTERDAY, THE JUSTICES DENIED AN EMERGENCY APPEAL, ASKING THE COURT TO LIFT A LOWER COURT RULING THAT STOPPED THE PLAN DURING THE LEGAL PROCESS. NOW, BECAUSE OF THE RULING, THE SAVE PLAN IS GOING TO STAY ON HOLD UNTIL THAT LOWER COURT’S FINAL RULING. A MAN WHOSE VOICE IS RECOGNIZABLE TO MANY HOCKEY FANS IN THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY, NOW USING HIS VOICE TO SEND A MESSAGE, GET A COLONOSCOPY. THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS ARE THE 2018 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS. WELL, THAT’S THE VOICE OF JOHN WALTON. HE ANNOUNCED ON SOCIAL MEDIA THAT HE IS BATTLING COLON CANCER, WRITING, QUOTE, I WILL BE IN A FIGHT FOR A BIT, BUT IT IS A FIGHT. I’M GOING TO WIN. WALTON TOLD HIS MENTEE AND CURRENT BEARS ANNOUNCER ZACH FISH THAT HIS COLONOSCOPY WAS DETECTED, THAT THE COLONOSCOPY IS WHAT DETECTED THE CANCER. JOHN WALTON SPENT NEARLY A DECADE AS THE VOICE OF THE HERSHEY BEARS BEFORE MOVING ON TO THEIR PARENT CLUB, THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS. I TALKED TO HIM ON THE PHONE THE OTHER DAY. HE’S IN GOOD SPIRITS. HE’S DOING WELL, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A LITTLE JARRING. THE CAPITALS AND BEARS BOTH SHARED THEIR SUPPORT AND WELL WISHES ON SOCIAL MEDIA. WALTON VOWS TO BE BACK IN THE BO
