Lovely hotel in a quiet area 10 minutes from Windermere. Everything about the hotel is very good quality including the rooms, food and staff service. This is one of our favourite places to stay in this part of the Lake District.

Lots of stairs. Breakfast on first day was cold and overcooked. The service very, very slow. Today's breakfast was good. They put greenery on the breakfast a complete waste of money. Smokehouse food too expensive.

We were disappointed in the evening menu, there was no special menu and we we WE found the main menu very limited. We normally like to support where we stay but sorry to say this time we went out on our second night. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice and the staff were lovey. All in all we had a great stay.

Amazing alternative afternoon tea- great food generally in the restaurant. Great drinks too, particularly real ale and wine. Lovely touches for the children - refillable drinks bottles to use throughout the stay, a good children's menu.Friendly and helpful staff.A cosy, country ambience.

The room we were in perhaps now needs updating a little in terms of decor, fittings and furnishings. However we peeked through into other rooms that were of a higher standard so I assume that only certain rooms are included in the £99 deal.

Overall a quaint old pub. Everything you would expect ,cosy log fires Own brewed beers. Relaxing setting. Lovely walks in their own woods. The breakfast is usually top notch food. However today one of our wild boar breakfast was cold. They did offer to re cook but we didn’t have the time to wait. Had a lovely croissant instead

Rooms 34 and 37 could do you abit of care on the furniture. I'm guessing because we were on a deal we got the worse rooms but could definitely do with some TLC

Lovely hotel in beautiful tranquil surroundings. Very good service everywhere and amazing breakfast (£25) with unusual choices including home smoked kippers. Our room was small and the bathroom was tiny (room 24) good job we’re slim as space for toilet between wall and bath very narrow. Shower over bath with curtain. Would have preferred just a shower and more space. Other rooms we have stayed in are superb by contrast. Would avoid this room in future.

Tired room, budget toilet roll. Lack of veg with evening dinner, ribeye very average. Breakfast just ok, bacon hard and not cooked to order. For the price that you demand, the food should be of better quality. Ambience of the hotel lacking in atmosphere. One toilet for females in not enough when you consider the number of covers you do most nights.

Took a week to book. Had to repeatedly chase to get any response from the hotel. No rely to emails or on the phone. The room was tired, damp and wet on walls near bed, damp/mould in bathroom. Stains over the desk and table in room. Used tissues next to bed on arrival. Noisy room on corridor, right next to entrance to hotel. Lights not working properly. Lightbulbs out. AND I’d paid additional for an upgraded room. Very disappointing. I have this feedback upon checking out and was just told ‘I will pass that on’.

We took advantage of the Clay pigeon shooting package. It's was amazing. Great instruction from our coach. Enjoyable but expensive stay. The travelzoo deal was £99 per room with Prosecco including breakfast which is excellent value. However be warned that the food, although delicious is not cheap . Breakfast is £25 head. Cheapest main course, chicken, was £24 and although beautifully presented the portion was not large. Vegetables were extra. It is a large sprawling hotel and to get to our rooms at the back, we had to negotiate many steps and corridors. The room was large and very clean. Fresh carafe of water and glasses. Lovely hospitality tray. Fabulous in situ range of toiletries . Our room had a bath with temperamental taps . No fan...window had to be opened to remove steam.not ideal in winter!Parking: we were fortunate but the car park was packed at 3pm. They hold clay pigeon shooting so maybe after 5 it was emptier.Staff were welcoming , extremely friendly and helpful.Lovely lounge area with roaring fires. Perfect for socialising with our family with an excellent bar.

Nearly gave up trying to book. After two previous attempts via phone and email I resorted on the third time to contacting Travelzoo. Two hours later The Wild Boar contacted me and a booking was made. Having now being there I can understand the unanswered calls and email as the reception seems to cover this plus meal payments and dealing with incoming and exiting guests along with meal bookings et al. The food, whilst obviously popular was expensive given the offering. The staff were excellent. The upgraded room was small. This is quite an old building that has been extended over undulating land so there are steps everywhere in the building, including our room. The Travelzoo offer against normal rates is very good and not far off what should be the 'everyday' charge. We were both left with the thought that we may have been given the room that we had, because of it being a vouchered stay. The room was tired as well as tiered. I wouldn't say it was unclean, my wife thought otherwise. I would agree that the carpet was in such a well worn and potentially stained state that a good vacuum may remove the carpet tufts from the backing. No window in the bathroom meant that it relied upon a silent (and possibly non-functioning) vent fan. On opening the window in the room to help clear the condensation, one didn't close properly (partially open when we arrived) and the other nearly came off it's hinges when trying to open and close it due to old and failing wooded frames. The main thing that shone in this place were the staff.

We had been given a voucher for a nights stay, we phoned 4 times, on different days and different times, to be told they were experiencing high volumes of calls, the phone would then ring for a while then a voice would say "no one is answering" and we were cut off. I then emailed, requesting to reserve a particular day , 4 days later I still hadn't had a reply. I phoned again and someone answered, stating they were a week behind in answering their emails. However she found my email and told me that there was vacancies but I would have to pay extra £30 as the rooms on the voucher had already been taken. I paid the extra, and we had a nice stay.

When we contacted the hotel there were no classic rooms left so we had to pay extra £30 for upgrade which at the time thought it will be a nice treat. Great friendly staff and lovely ambiance but very disappointing thing was we had no hot water in our room. When we mentioned this whilst checking out there were no real apology. The receptionist dismissed it very quickly saying they only found out this morning. Having no hot water really spoilt our stay. Before all this we were thinking we would definitely go back but not so sure now.
